Omahu Hut is a 20 minute walk from the car park, up a sometimes steep and uneven path through the forest, but you will be rewarded with unparalleled views and the comfort of our newest cabin. With inside shower, cooking facilities, wood burning stove, single bed, small deck, and outside long-drop loo.

Land acknowledgement

He Mihi ki te Whenua

The Wangapeka Study and Retreat Centre is located on whenua in Te Tauihu o te Waka a Māui. We acknowledge the whakapapa and kaitiakitanga of tangata whenua and the uri of the eight iwi of Te Tauihu, as being people of this land, and guardians of it.

We acknowledge Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Ngāti Kōata, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu, Ngāti Rārua, Te Ātiawa o te Waka a Māui, Rangitāne o Wairau as mana whenua of this rohe and acknowledge their history, culture and wisdom.

The Wangapeka Educational Trust aspires to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a heartfelt ongoing exploration and commitment to treaty partnership, recognising that Māori did not cede sovereignty of land. We are committed to deepening our relationships with mana whenua and understanding our roles and responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, in support of a flourishing Aotearoa for the benefit of all.
